Camila Vilaseca Guzman earned her medical degree from the Universidad Mayor de San Andrés (UMSA) in La Paz, Bolivia. She began her research journey in the Department of Neurosurgery at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston, initially focusing on neuro-oncology before broadening her scope to vascular neurology and cerebrovascular disease. Her contributions across these fields have led to multiple articles in prestigious scientific journals and international conference presentations. Today, her academic focus centers on vascular neurology, stroke care, and clinical research.
Beyond her research, Camila is deeply committed to global health and mentorship. She is the Founder of the Mission: BRAIN UMSA Chapter, an initiative created to foster neuroscience education and international collaboration for medical students in Bolivia. As a Bolivian physician, she is driven to advance stroke research while inspiring the next generation of students from her home country to pursue careers in neuroscience, research, and academic medicine.
